RSD & REA Take Small Steps in Negotiations

This past Tuesday RSD and REA reached tentative agreement on Article #18, Student Discipline.  REA was able to get improved language regarding behavior plans, safety protocols, and timely sharing of information with "need to know members" regarding students with emotional regulation issues.  RSD was unwilling to add language regarding restorative justice practices, despite having spent hundreds of hours and thousands of dollars creating an RJ program and processes. :(

REA and RSD were unable to come together on a restoration of the mentor program for new educators, A #28.  The district is "unprepared" to take this on for the 2021/22 school year.  The sides agreed to go back to current contract language for Article 28. :(

Some progress was made on Article 26, Student Services.  The district agreed in principal to break 26 into sections, A, B, and C to separate SPED, ELL, and Emotional Supports and establish committees in each area.  More to come on this. :)

At the next session (May 18th from 5:00 until?), RSD will bring language on Articles, 7, 9, 26, and initial language on 22 Compensation & 23 Fringe Benefits.
